Holy crap, it works!

Holy crap, it works! – Joyous words of accomplishment that are not spoken as much as they burst from your body when you get something to “work”.

If you’re an artist, software developer, writer or maker of almost any sort you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Actually, if you’re a human being, you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you don’t regularly makes things you may have to dig into your memories a little deeper. Dig deep, it’s worth it!

Recently I was reminded of these words and the amazing feeling that comes with them. A coworker and I are hard at work coding up a storm on our project. We’re really enjoying the code and we’re flying by the seat of our pants and we’re learning a lot! We’re not worried about the perfect plan, the perfect architecture, the perfect road map. We tell ourselves : “Lets focus building something that we can get out the door and we’ll make it better when we open it up to the world.”

When we really get into a groove, we find ourselves in this pattern of build, learn, fix, understand, redesign and rebuild. Resistance to doing, to making drops away…

…and then BOOM – Holy crap, it works!

Shout out to Erik. Thanks for the inspirational IM with “Holy crap, it works!”.

  1. Would love to see the results of your ‘wind mill project’ from a previous post …. or is that what the “Holy crap” is about ? Any pictures ?

  2. Hi Ed – this “holy crap” post was related to a software programming project at work. My windmill project is moving slowly at the moment ..very slowly :) Basically, since the motor is an AC induction motor, I’ve decided to rewind it and then mount some permanent magnets to the housing. I’ll be sure to post the results when I get back to it though.
    Cheers!
